Teen Read Week
Teen Read Week is an annual celebration of young adult literature sponsored by the American Library Association each fall. Here's how the Smithville Junior High library has celebrated in the past:
- Teen Read Week 2007, "LOL," Flyer
- Teen Read Week 2008, "Books With Bite," PowerPoint Presentation
- Teen Read Week 2008 Brochure
National Library Week
National Library Week is usually celebrated by public libraries; however, since I was out on maternity leave during Teen Read Week 2009, I chose to celebrate National Library Week in April of 2010, instead. AR
Students at the Junior High have been very involved in the Accelerated Reader program. Over 30 students earned 100 points or more this year. Click here (and scroll down to "What SJH Is Currently Reading...") to see what our students have been reading!
Breakfast Book Club
From 2007-2009, the Breakfast Book Club met each Friday morning in the library to share breakfast and books. The library provided breakfast for students in attendance, who were then invited to stay and listen as I read aloud from a recently released young adult novel.
Summer Book Club
This summer I have started a Summer Book Club for students who wish to read over the summer. Participants have received four free books and will participate in a book discussion on this blog.
Lone Star List
At the request of the Pre-AP Language Arts teachers, I prepared this list of books in our library which have received the Lone Star award. Depending on teacher requirements, students choose between one and three of these books to read and report on each semester.
