The Library Online
The library has maintained its online presence in two ways.
- Library Website - This site is updated weekly and contains links to valuable resources, as well as information regarding library events and procedures.
- Library Blog - The Library Blog was discontinued this year, as the district requested that all online activity be transferred to the offical school site. Prior to this year, the blog was the library's main online presence, and included monthly book reviews, links to library newsletters, news events related to reading and literacy, and links to seasonal activities and articles.
Websites, Wikis, and Webquests
These sites were created for various purposes and projects. Most provide resources for class assignments, while some provide online tutorials or, in the case of webquests, a complete learning experience. These sites were created through collaboration with classroom teachers.
- Holocaust Webquest (8th Grade Language Arts)- An inquiry-based learning experience, in which students are given an authentic task (to create a photo essay about the Holocaust) and must use the provided resources to accomplish it.
- The Cay Research Site (6th Grade Language Arts) - This wiki, which is co-edited by the Language Arts teacher, contains the class research assignment, a calendar of due dates, and a thorough list of resources for conducting research.
- My Life is a Movie Tutorial (7th and 8th Grade Language Arts) - I created this site as an online tutorial to explain how to use Windows Movie Maker to 7th and 8th grade students. I also spent a day in the computer lab instructing students in how to use the program. To view the finished student products, click here.
- Where the Red Fern Grows Webquest (8th Grade Remedial Language Arts) - Students were asked to research the habitat of a North American animal. This site provided them with a note-taking process and resources for research.
- 1960s Research (8th Grade Language Arts) - While reading The Outsiders, this class conducted research on events of the 1960s using the resources on these pages.
- Black History Month Pathfinder (6th Grade Language Arts) - This document assisted students in locating information for the research they conducted on a famous African American in celebration of Black History Month.
- Teen Leadership Standards (7th Grade Teen Leadership) - The Teen Leadership class used the resources on this page to explore how societal standards have changed over the years.
Book Trailers
Book Trailers are short movies which essentially "tease" or advertise books. They can be used to garner student interest in reading, to market new books, or as an aide in book talking. Here are two I created in 2009:
